Contemporary Vanitas: skull in metal lace

The skull, a classic subject of Vanitas, is magnified here. Far from being macabre, it symbolizes fragility and the passage of time, permanently captured by the solidity of the metal.
The perforated surface gives the illusion of a material weathered by time, while revealing light through its metallic "mesh".
The head is supported by steel and bronze rods that raise it above a solid base, adding a dynamic and almost vegetal dimension to the whole.
