With this metal head sculpture, I wanted to bring out an archetypal form: a universal human presence, both stable, multiple, and timeless.
An archetypal form in round-bosse
In Un Roc, the face is not that of a specific individual. It tends toward an essential form, almost primitive, like a buried memory of the human face. This deliberate simplification brings it closer to an archetype: a universal image that everyone can recognize without being able to identify it.
The sculpture is designed in round-bosse, offering two distinct sides. This dual reading enhances its timeless character: the face never settles into a single expression. It becomes a global presence, both stable and changing, as if several states coexist within the same form.
A raw material pierced by light
Made in metal lace, the sculpture combines steel and bronze in a structure created by drip fusion. This technique produces a material that is both raw and openwork, where solid and void constantly interact.
Steel provides a dark and solid base, almost mineral-like, evoking permanence. Bronze brings a warmer, more organic feel, like a trace of life. Together, they create a presence that oscillates between human figure and original form, between identity and matter. Light passes through this structure and activates the volume, revealing a face that seems to emerge from the matter itself.
