Belisama At the Heart of Matter is an anatomical heart sculpture in metal where steel and bronze lace reveal the strength of life through light and void.
A vision of the heart between strength and fragility
When I imagined Belisama At the Heart of Matter, I did not want to represent a heart realistically. I wanted to reveal its essence. Behind this silhouette inspired by human anatomy lies a deeper energy—the energy of life, memory, and emotion.
The metal lace transforms mass into lightness. The voids become as important as the material itself. Light passes through the artwork, drawing new shapes and evolving the sculpture according to the viewer’s gaze and the surrounding space. This living presence makes every observation a different experience.
A sculpture entirely shaped by hand
Like each of my creations, Belisama At the Heart of Matter is entirely handmade using my metal lace technique. Here, I combine steel and bronze to create a balance between power, warmth, and delicacy. Each metal pour gradually builds an organic structure impossible to replicate.
This artwork is a unique piece belonging to the Life-Size Body Collection and the Collection Works range. It is aimed at contemporary art lovers seeking a sculpture that can interact with light, architecture, and emotion, while offering a strong and timeless presence.

Why does this sculpture represent an anatomical heart?
The heart symbolizes life, emotions, and memory. This contemporary interpretation seeks less anatomical accuracy than the expression of inner strength and the fragility of the living.
Why is the sculpture openwork?
The metal lace allows light to pass through the work. The empty spaces become an integral part of the sculpture and change according to the lighting and viewpoint.
What materials make up Belisama Au cœur de la matière?
The sculpture is made of steel and bronze. The combination of these two metals brings a contrast of textures, colors, and depth.
Is this sculpture a unique piece?
Yes. Belisama Au cœur de la matière is entirely handmade and exists in only one copy.
Which collection does this work belong to?
It is part of the Real Size Body collection, which explores the human body as an artistic language, as well as the Collection Works range, bringing together Philippe Buil’s major creations.
Where can this sculpture be installed?
Thanks to its open structure and graphic presence, it naturally finds its place in a contemporary interior, a gallery, a corporate lobby, or a private collection where light can fully interact with the material.
Why the name Belisama?
Belisama is a Celtic deity associated with light, fire, and creation. This name evokes the energy that animates matter and the transformation of metal into a work of art.
What is special about the technique used?
The sculpture is made using the original metal lace technique developed by Philippe Buil. Molten metal is gradually deposited to create a unique organic structure where every detail is hand-shaped.
