With Jocaste, I wanted to evoke the beauty and complexity of the female body through light and material. This sculpture takes the form of a bust created using my metal lace technique, where bronze unfolds like a living, light, and almost fragile weave.
I always strive to make the weight of the metal disappear. The material is hollowed out, fragmented, allowing light to pass through it. The gaze passes through the sculpture as if through a veil, gradually revealing the presence of the body.
The name Jocaste echoes the mythological figure linked to Oedipus. This queen, both mother, lover, and tragic woman, embodies a profound humanity made of beauty, mystery, and destiny. This dimension touched me: it gives the represented body a presence that is both intimate and universal.
The bronze lace is entirely covered with 24-carat gold leaf. The gold does not mask the material; it reveals it. It captures the light and transforms it into a luminous softness, highlighting every relief and every vibration of the surface.
In this sculpture, I wanted the metal to become almost skin, almost light. The form appears then dissolves into space, oscillating between presence and disappearance.
Jocaste is for me a silent figure: a body of light where strength, fragility, and mystery mingle.
