This female bust sculpture in metal lace evokes the mystery of origins and the momentum that accompanies the emergence of life.

A female body that seems to emerge from matter

With Belisama L’Élan des Origines, I wanted to represent a female bust that is not merely a representation of the body, but a form in transformation. The female body appears through a network of openwork metal, as if it were gradually taking shape from matter. The metal lines define the volumes while leaving ample space for emptiness, giving the whole a presence that is both strong and light.

The silhouette of the bust is intentionally open. Light passes through the spaces between the lines and reveals the volumes differently depending on the viewing angle. This way of working with metal allows me not to enclose the body within a compact mass. The body thus becomes a dialogue between matter, emptiness and light, between what is visible and what remains to be imagined.

L’Élan des Origines, an evocation of life and transmission

The title L’Élan des Origines refers to the moment when something begins to exist. The two forms emerging at the top of the bust give the sculpture a particular dimension: they may evoke emergence, birth, transmission or even a new generation taking shape. I prefer to leave this interpretation open so that everyone can establish their own relationship with the work.

Through this female bust, I also seek to evoke the continuity of life. The body becomes the starting point of a movement that seems to continue beyond itself. Belisama L’Élan des Origines belongs to the Life-size Body Collection and the Collection Works range. It is part of my work on the human body and my research into the expressive possibilities of metal lace.
