With this work, I wanted to pay tribute to a sign often misunderstood, sometimes unfairly reduced to its shell. This sculpture embodies Cancer, a deeply positive symbol that represents protection, memory, and immense emotional richness. This water sign, ruled by the Moon, is here represented by its intertwined curves, evoking a refuge, a life cycle that regenerates, and infinite kindness.
The combination of steel and bronze, worked in dripping (drop-by-drop fusion), transforms this symbol into a luminous lace. By removing the mass of the metal, I reveal the true nature of Cancer: a structure that is not closed in on itself but filters light to protect what is most precious. This sculpture is a piece from the Intimate range that brings an energy of comfort, softness, and inner peace to your space.
Why do you say that Cancer is an "unknown but positive" sign? We often forget that Cancer is the sign of the source, the home, and sensitive creativity. In this sculpture, I wanted to highlight this positivity: the two loops of the symbol are not claws that trap, but arms that welcome and protect. It is the sign of strength through gentleness.
How does the metal lace express the sensitivity of the sign? Cancer is ruled by the Moon and the tides. The dripping technique creates an openwork mesh that evokes the fluidity of water and the silvery reflections of the lunar body. The transparency of the lace shows that the "shell" is not a barrier but a sensitive membrane that lets emotions pass through.
What are the respective roles of steel and bronze in this piece? The gray steel forms the protective and enduring structure. The bronze, fused on the edges and curves, brings warm highlights, like sun rays piercing through morning mist. These bronze touches give this sculpture an aura of nobility and a reassuring vibration.
