Skull 82-23: The Raw Breath of Origins
With this work, I wanted to trace back through time to touch the very essence of our humanity. This sculpture takes on a very raw, almost simian form, whose archaic lines remind us of our distant origins, those of cavemen. Far from classical anatomical representations, it seeks to capture primitive strength and survival, making this skull a timeless relic of our lineage.
The contrast between the steel lace and the bronze projections accentuates this wild aspect. The material seems to have been forged in the chaos of the first fires, with an irregular mesh that lets light pass through the prominent eye sockets. This sculpture is not just a vanity; it is a direct link to our most distant past, a piece from the Intimate range that celebrates the persistence of life through the millennia.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Why choose a "simian" form for this vanity? The idea was to move away from the image of modern death to rediscover that of the ancestor. By emphasizing the brow ridge and jaw, I pay tribute to evolution. It is a way to remind that our current consciousness rests on brutal and powerful foundations from Prehistory.
How does the dripping technique serve this "raw" aspect? The drop-by-drop fusion creates rough textures and rugged reliefs that evoke rock or fossilized bone. Unlike a smooth surface, this metal lace seems to have been sculpted by time and the elements.
What are the respective roles of steel and bronze here? Steel forms the robust and dark structure of the skull box. Bronze, with its warm highlights, emphasizes the prominent features and adds a precious dimension to this object that seems to have been unearthed from a forgotten cave.
Is this a unique work? Absolutely. Each fusion gesture is irreproducible. This sculpture is entirely handmade, without any mold. The unique character of its shape and mesh makes it a collectible piece signed by Philippe Buil, accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.
How to highlight this "cave" aspect? Side or grazing lighting is ideal to accentuate the face's reliefs and the depth of the eye sockets. Placed on a mineral or raw wood support, it will reveal all its evocative power and ancestral character.
