With this male back sculpture in metal lace, I wanted to bring out an inner mountain, a body turned landscape, between tension and serenity.
The body as a living mountain
In La Montagne Yogi 120-21, the male back goes beyond its simple anatomy to become an almost geological form. It rises, structures itself, asserts itself as a silent relief. The gaze no longer just follows a bodily line, it explores a surface, a presence, a volume that evokes a mountain.
The yoga posture registers a contained tension. Nothing is moving, yet everything is active. The body seems still but charged with energy, like a stable mass crossed by an inner force. This back then becomes a space for projection, a calm territory where grounding and elevation meet.
A material inhabited between bronze and steel
The sculpture is made of metal lace, using a drop-by-drop fusion technique that gives rise to an openwork and vibrant material. The steel builds the structure, it holds, it anchors, it provides the backbone of the whole.
The bronze, visually denser, inhabits certain areas like an internal warmth. It does not cover, it flows, it appears in places like an energy that surfaces. This presence creates a subtle contrast, not opposed but complementary, where the solidity of steel dialogues with a more organic form of breathing.
Light passes through the sculpture, clings, disperses. It reveals as much as it erases, giving the whole a feeling of inner movement. The piece then becomes a silent balance between strength and inwardness, a form of meditation inscribed in the material.
