With this bronze bear sculpture, I wanted to bring out a gentle and universal presence, between a real animal and a symbolic form.
An animal figure between gentleness and archetype
In Ours Nandi, the animal is depicted sitting, in a calm and stable posture. This position gives it a peaceful, almost meditative presence. The bear here is not in strength or dominance, but in a form of inner tranquility.
By simplifying the lines and avoiding realistic detail, the sculpture tends toward an archetypal form. It evokes the universal idea of the bear: protector, peaceful, almost familiar. This approach goes beyond simple animal representation to reach a more symbolic dimension.
Bronze lace: a living material
The sculpture is made of bronze lace, obtained by melting the metal drop by drop. This technique creates an openwork structure that gives the bear a presence that is both solid and light.
Bronze bands complement this lace and structure certain areas of the body, enhancing the volumes while maintaining great freedom of form.
Light passes through the material and animates the sculpture, revealing volume, void, and contours in turn. The bear thus seems alive, as if it were breathing through the material.
