Salamandre 67-25: The Alchemical Breath Between Fire and Ice
With this sculpture, I wanted to capture the essence of a fascinating animal, on the border between the real and the mythical. Since Antiquity, the salamander has been a symbol of resistance to flames, a being capable of passing through fire without burning. This steel lace sculpture embodies this alchemical breath: it seems both born from the fire of fusion and to retain the cold clarity of metal, illustrating this constant dialogue between hot and cold.
The silhouette is crafted using dripping (drop-by-drop fusion), creating an openwork skin that evokes both the amphibian’s scales and the vibrations of light. Set on its raw wood base, it symbolizes the union of elements: metal born from fire, air flowing through its lace, and wood connecting it to the earth. It is a piece from the Intimate range that brings a mystical and protective presence to your interior, a legendary creature frozen in an eternity of metal.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
What is the symbolism of the salamander in your work? The salamander is a symbol of transformation and purity. In my creative process, it represents metal that, under extreme heat, becomes liquid to be reborn in a new, lacy, and airy form. It is the quintessential alchemical animal.
How is the contrast between "hot and cold" rendered? The "hot" is present in the genesis of the work, through the fusion of steel at over 1500°C. The "cold" is suggested by the final appearance of the steel lace, whose grayish reflections and transparency evoke a crystalline, almost icy structure.
Why choose a wood base for this sculpture? The wood brings an organic warmth and natural texture that contrasts with the mineral quality of steel. This highlights the wild character of the salamander and strengthens its grounding in the real world, while allowing its metal body to rise toward myth.
Is this a unique piece? Yes, absolutely. The design of the steel lace and the posture of Salamandre 67-25 are the result of a spontaneous and unrepeatable gesture. Each piece is made without a mold, signed, and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
How do you care for this sculpture combining steel and wood? The steel is protected by an invisible professional varnish. For maintenance, simply dust the metal part with a soft-bristle brush. The wood can be cleaned with a soft, dry cloth to preserve its natural appearance.
