With this metal dancer sculpture, I wanted to capture the movement of the veils in space, creating a work that is discovered by moving around it.
A dance in round-bosse: movement in space
In Soir de Première, the dancer is conceived in round-bosse, which means the movement is not limited to a single view. Turning around the sculpture, the gesture transforms, like a choreography frozen in material.
The veils fully participate in this dynamic. They are not simply placed on the body: they extend the movement, amplify it, and embed it in space. This approach connects to a long artistic tradition where dance is used to explore movement and the fluidity of the body. Here, the movement becomes circular, enveloping, almost continuous.
Metal lace: making the invisible visible
The sculpture is made in metal lace, by fusing steel and bronze drop by drop. This technique allows the creation of an openwork structure where the material seems to dissolve to make way for movement.
Steel structures the main lines and gives a framework to the gesture, while bronze brings a warmer, more organic vibration. The veils themselves become almost immaterial: they capture the light and give the impression of suspended movement. The sculpture does not just represent a dancer; it shapes the air around her.
