Symbol of Fire 17-25: The Purifying Flame and Ascension
With this work, I wanted to capture the most immaterial and sacred energy of the forge. This sculpture embodies the symbol of fire, not as a destructive force, but as a purifying element. It evokes the lightness of incense smoke rising to the sky, transforming raw matter into a metal prayer. It is the fire of the spirit, the one that consumes impurities to leave only the essential: light and verticality.
The marriage of steel and bronze, worked in dripping (drop-by-drop fusion), reproduces the upward movement of flames. The metal lace seems to vibrate under the effect of invisible heat, creating a play of transparency where the air seems to ignite. This sculpture is a piece from the Intimate range that brings a dynamic of renewal and elevation to your interior, reminding that every transformation is a birth.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
Why compare fire to "incense rising to the sky"? Fire has a dual nature: it burns on the ground but its essence always seeks the heights. In this sculpture, I emphasized this spiritual dimension. The lines of the lace stretch upward, imitating the fluidity of sacred smoke. It is the fire that purifies the soul and carries our intentions toward the ether.
How does the fusion technique pay tribute to fire? There is a mise en abyme in this work: I use the 1500°C torch flame to sculpt the symbol of fire itself. Each drop of molten metal that solidifies in the lace is a witness to a moment of extreme fusion, capturing incandescent energy for eternity.
What are the respective roles of steel and bronze here? The gray steel forms the backbone of the flame, providing structure and strength. The bronze, with its golden highlights, represents the bright light and warmth of the hearth. These bronze projections give this sculpture a solar radiance, as if embers were still active at the heart of the lace.
Is this a unique piece? Absolutely. Fire is by definition unpredictable, and so is my gesture. Created freehand, without any mold, piece 17-25 has a mesh and inclination unique to itself. It is an original creation signed Philippe Buil, accompanied by its certificate of authenticity.
How should this piece be displayed to enhance its brilliance? Placed under a spotlight or near a candle, the reflections of the bronze will come alive and the shadows cast on the wall will seem to dance like real flames. This sculpture benefits from being isolated to let its vertical momentum breathe and inspire the room.
