The sculpture of hands forming a heart is a symbolic work in which I wanted to express the strength of human connection, generosity, and the beauty of what is shared. Titled An Exchange, this creation combines steel, bronze, and the radiance of 24-carat gold leaf in a composition where the material becomes a vehicle for emotion.

A metal lacework sculpture between strength and fragility

To create An Exchange, I chose to depict two hands coming together to form the shape of a heart. This simple and universal gesture evokes connection, consideration for others, and the possibility of creating something together. The hands do not quite touch at the center: this preserved space gives the composition room to breathe and suggests that exchange is a living movement based on the relationship between two presences.

I created this sculpture using metal lacework, a technique that allows me to transform steel and bronze into an openwork, irregular, organic material. The openings, reliefs, and rough textures create an almost living surface. The metal retains its strength and density, but its appearance becomes surprisingly light and airy. This contrast between the material’s solidity and the apparent fragility of the lace is one of the essential elements of my work.

Steel, bronze, and gold in the service of emotion

In this work, I combined steel and bronze to make their shades and textures interact. The left hand, covered with 24-carat gold leaf, brings a distinctive light to the whole piece. This precious finish contrasts with the darker, mineral tones of the metal, highlighting the shape of the heart without erasing the material’s raw character.

With An Exchange, I wanted to create a contemporary sculpture that could find its place in an interior while retaining a genuine artistic presence. Its subject evokes love, but also friendship, solidarity, transmission, and all the relationships built through sharing. Everyone can recognize a personal story in it. This freedom of interpretation is what interests me: creating a work that does not merely represent a symbol, but invites reflection on what we give and receive through our encounters.

Learn more about the sculpture “An Exchange”

What does the sculpture “An Exchange” represent?

The sculpture An Exchange represents two hands coming together to form a heart. It symbolizes the bond between people, love, sharing, generosity, and reciprocity. Its interpretation remains open to everyone, whether it concerns a romantic relationship, a friendship, or a family bond.

What technique was used to create this sculpture?

This work is made using the metal lace technique. Steel and bronze are worked to create an openwork, irregular, and organic structure. The contrast between the solid areas and the voids gives the metal a distinctive sculptural appearance that is both powerful and airy.

What materials make up the sculpture “An Exchange”?

The sculpture combines steel and bronze. The left hand has a 24-karat gold-leaf finish, which provides a luminous sheen and contrasts with the darker, rawer tones of the other parts of the work.

Is the sculpture covered with real gold?

The left hand is covered with 24-karat gold leaf. This is a genuine gold-leaf finish applied to this part of the sculpture, not simply gold-colored paint. The other parts retain their own metallic tones.

Why does the sculpture have so many holes and raised areas?

Openings, roughness, and irregularities are an integral part of the metal lace. They create an interplay of light and transparency that contrasts the density of steel and bronze with the visual lightness of the structure. This raw and organic material is an aesthetic signature of the work.

Which collection does “Un échange” belong to?

Un échange belongs to the Œuvres de Collection, the Collection Coeurand the Collection Divers. Its symbolic subject and production technique make it a piece that combines universal expression with contemporary artistic exploration.

Where should this heart-shaped sculpture be placed?

This sculpture can be placed on a piece of furniture, a console table, or a shelf, in a living room, office, or reception area. A simple background and side lighting make it easier to appreciate the reliefs of the metal lace and the reflections of the gold leaf.

Is the sculpture “Un échange” an original gift idea?

Its universal symbolism makes it a work that can accompany a birthday, a wedding, an anniversary, or another important occasion. Unlike a conventional decorative object, this sculpture combines a personal message with an artistic creation in steel and bronze, enhanced with a 24-carat gold leaf finish.

What makes this contemporary sculpture special?

Its originality lies in the combination of three elements: the gesture of hands forming a heart, the openwork material of the metal lace, and the contrast between the raw metal surfaces and the gold leaf. The work thus goes beyond the classic representation of the heart to offer a sculptural interpretation of human connection.
